First Install Problems:Chubby Puppy
Hot dog - I am a MS user but I found a copy of Knoppix on a Magazine and decided it was a golden opportunity to try Linux.
It Loads on my Dell Dimension at work (256 meg) but not on my Dell Dimension 4100 (128 meg) (actually it does load but soon bogs down trashing and becomes unusable).
Looking for answers on the Web I found Chubby Puppy - great - just what I needed. It also loads great at work and runs fast fast fast. When I bring it home however, it begins to boot but stops dead after the command
"apm: BIOS version 1.2 flag 0X32 (Driver version 1.16)"
I have tried versions 1.0.5, 1.0.6 and 1.0.7. They all boot fine at work and they all stop at exactly the same place on my machine at home.
I have considerable experience with 80's era commercial Unix but I am out of practice and new to Linux. What do I need to try next?
