firewall config

ok im hooked up to a wireless router(although my box's connection isn't wireless but hooked up to the lan1 on the back), anyways i've tried repeatedly to change the settings in gnome to allow ssh/http connections to my computer.. yet when i save and go back into the config its back to allow no connections at all... i've even checked with iptables and it says that it's allowing connections, yet no connections are let in...so are there any alternatie firewall configurators that i should look for or some software that might be restricting access without my knowing? thanks .... BTW one unrelated question, how can i get the mouse wheel to work on my mouse, to scroll pages?

Well first of all you have to make sure that the ssh and http services are running. Do a port scan on yourself or do a chkconfig --list to see if they are running. If they are running then the issue could be with your tcpwrappers. Check your /etc/hosts.allow and your /etc/hosts.deny files.

The way I have my tcpwrappers set up is by denying everything and then allowing only the specific services I want people to use. For instance; http allows all users for obvious reasons but ssh will deny people if they are not using an IP address that I specifically allow.

Just to check, did you open the ports on the wireless router as well?
