Every so often I will be browsing and firefox shuts down, it happens randomly (not always the same site). The bigger problem is that when I go to restart firefox it just hangs as if its going to start then it does not and I have to reboot to get firefox to startup again. I have tried logging out and back in as user and that does nothing.
Anyone have any idea how I can get it to restart without having to reboot?
Just ending my X session does it for me when that happenes. Don't know why you're having to reboot. FWIW, I have the EXACT same problem with it under Windows, so it's a 'cross-platform bug'. LOL
kkz, I had "swichproxie" on my window's distro and same crap happened
which of course is a firefox add on
getting to the point:
try going to safe mode on firefox
if it works fine, remove all add on's on firefox
and it should work~
if you don't have ny' add on's all I can do
is to link to you mozzila www.mozilla.org

Last time it happend I tried " killall firefox " and I just get a message saying no processed killed, yea, I was root when I did it. ?
I had that problem with firefox, but it turned out to be the pre-release version of firefox 1.00
I understand that v 1.04 is more stable and secure
maybe you should try upgrading your firefox
OMG! I always thought ps -e showed all the processed running........
Thanks for the help everyone, next time this happens I will try killall -9 firefox but, When I have done ps -e every other time firefox has crashed, no firefox processes were listed but I will try ps aux next time. Thanks.

You can also check if there's $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/default.something/lock file. If you have it when firefox is not running, it won't start. Sometimes firefox doesn't delete it (power failure etc). It may be your case.

Thanks, I will remember that next time it happens, or try to remember.
Firefox simply closes and will not restart, happend 2 times this week. I looked for lock files all over but could not find any for firefox or mozilla. The only way I can get firefox to restart is by rebooting, closing X and starting it back up does not do it, logging out and back in does not do it either.
Any other ideas how I could fix this problem? I have been using mozilla with no problems but firefox has cool features, I also use opera but it has its own issues that I dont care for.
Thanks.
