Firefox woes
 

I have been happily using firefox when at one point today I clicked on my little link that loads it up, and nothing happened. Further attempts met at no success. So I did a quick reinstall (using the tar version) and still no luck. I tried to execute the bin file but this is the message I get

"./firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libmozjs.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I can see that file right there in the directory but it won't work. I have tried the rpm versions of firefox too and I get the same error message. I have also tried mozilla and mozilla won't load and I didn't bother trying to execute it. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have no idea what went wrong and what I did to make it stop working. Thank you for your time.

PS I'm using mandrake 10 official

try completely uninstalling all versions of firefox and mozilla .. then try to install firefox again from rpm's ...

I had the same problem when I was testing Suse, my solution was to go back to good old Fedora :)

I have tried uninstalling all versions, but I haven't tried to delete all traces. I guess I'm going to have to try to delete all traces but it seemed it was just bookmarked in certain locations and stuff.

Well maybe I don't know how to uninstall well enough, but I just uninstalled the rpms and thehidden mozilla directories. I also deleted every trace of that file that "isn't found" I could find (it is a part of openoffice.org too). Still no dice, still the same problem. I have no idea why it kept working for a while then just stopped. If I am overlooking something please let me know. Thank you for your time.

Well, I found out after doing A LOT of searching through the web that the error message that I get isn't bad because you aren't supposed to try to get it to execute from that bin. However, that still leaves the problem of me not being able to execute the program from the proper script for mozilla and firefox. I try to execute them and instead of loading up the program (this is for both mozilla and firefox) it just returns to the command prompt. No text is given, nothing starts to load up, nothing, it was as if I had just hit enter or something. Any help would be extremely appreciated, I hate not being able to use firefox.

Firefox stores it's files in following locations: an installation directory (e.g. /usr/local/firefox or where you installed it), /root/.mozilla and ~/.mozilla. Just try to delete them all, get a fresh copy of Firefox and install it as root. Start it as root for a first time (it starts automatically if you use an installer), then as user.

Thank you very much for the help. Firefox actually loads with root but I'm still having trouble running it as a user. I think I'm going to just go through and see if I missed deleting anything. Thanks for the help, at least now I know there is some hope of running it again, haha. Take care.

Let's get it 100% working... tell me what do you mean saying you having trouble running it as user? It doesn't starts? Running it as root is a very bad idea...

Yeah, I get scared running it as root. It has the same problem when trying to run it as user, it actually seems like it is starting to read because I see come activity from my computer but it just ends up going back to console. I really don't understand this problem since I used to have it working, then I think it crashed from some webpage and it hasn't worked since. I set it to have no cache so I don't see how it could be pieces of that webpage still messing it up. I'll try to play with it some more tonight. Thanks for all of your help.
