firefox + proxy

I'm trying to setup a proxy and I'm not sure about one thing. This is the layout.

my pc ---- router ------ internet ----- proxy server

Can I now just change direct connection to the internet in the firefox preferences to the proxy server's IP and port? Or do I have to do something special?

The proxy server is outside the network so can I just disable direct connection to the internet?

Why would you use a proxy server outside of your network when a direct connection would work most likely? Your just creating more one hop with possible restrictions to browse the net, is this intentional or a reason to do this?

This is intentional as I need someone to use the proxy's IP or at least have a dutch ip address to login a game when I'm on vacation.

Well, if this proxy allows you to connect and use it, I see no problems with it. Why not just remote connect to thru your connection from outside your network to the game network, etc.. ;)

It's a browserbased game.

Well obviously then I'm wrong on the server settings. So much for default things ;) Have to know more about squid I think.
