I am a new Linux user who just started using it after years and years of using windows OSs. I am using FC 5 on a Dell Optiplex 260 Machine. Everything on my rig works great except for on small problem. When I go to NBA.com and try to watch any videos, the web browser says plugin missing. It does not tell me which plugin it needs and/or where to find it. I am using Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.10. Its funny because I can view videos on youtube just fine. On my windows machine mozilla automatically gets the plugin and plays the video just fine. Please suggest what should be done.
Also is there a version of Winamp available for FC 5?
How about iTunes or any other similar online radio player. I love the iTunes for its streaming radio basically.
Also what website/textbook would you recommend to a novice to learn all the Linux commands or most of them atleast.
If you do respond to this, please do make it detailed and simple. I am a nooB.

I think if you 'right click' on the square where the missing plug-in is it will tell what is missing. However, I am guessing it will be Adobe Flash that you can get from here: http://www.adobe.com/
You have to manually install it, which is a little bit complicated but you only have to do it once and the instructions are on the website. Alternatively you can follow the instructions here: http://www.gagme.com/greg/linux/fc5-tips.php

You should really upgrade to Firefox 2 as there are some security issues with 1.5 (plus V2 is better)

You can get Winamp for Linux and there is a clone of it called XMMS. However, what you need is amaroK(http://amarok.kde.org/)! This is the best music player on ANY operating system! It will let you listen to streaming radio and transfer files to your ipod.

However, do remember that most modern distros do privide a graphical way of doing things. You do not HAVE to use a command, but often it is quicker once you get used to it.
Winamp is a Windows program, so you can't use that. iTunes has no Linux version, so no on that one as well.
There are many, many, media players for Linux. Take a look at XMMS, BEEP, Audacious, Amarok, etc, etc. Most of them will allow you to listen to streaming audio out of the box.
As for the plugin issue, I would first suggest you upgrade to the 2.X release of Firefox, as running such an old version is only going to make things more difficult. As for the plugin itself, it may need something like mplayerplug-in, but I can't really say for sure. Perhaps somebody that frequents the site would know.

I have just remembered that, for licencing reasons, Fedora does not allow you to play MP3s 'out of the box'. So no matter what music player you go for, you will need to add the MP3 plug in as explained here: http://www.gagme.com/greg/linux/fc5-tips.php#mp3
Helix engine should come with mp3 plugin installed, but make sure you tell amaroK to use it in Settings -> Configure amaroK -> Engine. Xine comes without mp3 plugin and I think it is the default engine for amaroK.
Works fine for me even using ALSA with dmix plugin (at the same time as other sound-producing applications). Version is 1.3.1 which should not be very new as this is the version that comes with SUSE 10.0.
