firefox just exits

hallo,

since the morning firefox is making troubles. clicking on the "news" link on google.com (or something similiar) results in an exiting firefox. i work with fedora core 4. the only thing i recently changed was the installation of maple8 (which failed). i tried the windows way of reinstallation but the problem is still there - what should i do???

try clearing your browser settings. Deleting the profile info most likely located at ~/.mozilla/Firefox or something similar. If that doesn't work it could also be an extension. Those tend to cause stability issues sometimes.

Try starting firefox from konsole and see if you get some error to the terminal. If that also does not work , strace the process and you should see what is breaking.

i had the same problem with FC4, did you use an RPM? they aren't very stable, plus you could try upgrading

yep i installed via yum - so using rpm. i tried what you suggested but installing from source leads to complaining about some libstdc++.so.5 (or something like that). the so.6 version is installed. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??????????????? what now

from the strace it looks to me like u are running firefox as root. Two suggestions.

1. Try running it as a normal user.

2. Remove the plugins u have and try it out.
