Firefox install error

I'm trying to install the newest version of Firefox, And the install starts perfect but 1/2 way tru da install i get the following error!
Code:
DLError: /lib/i686/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by ./libxpcom.so)
Anyone know how to sort that out?
I think its glibc 3.2 i have installed!

Thanks
Mark

Go to the following site and look for libc.so.6
http://rpm.pbone.net/
download the file related to your distribution and processor and install it. That should solve the problem.

If you still have problem let me know

What distro are you using, you need to install the glibc development package for your distro and I believe its better to use your distributions package managers to install it than downloading from third party sites.

What build of FF

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i586; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050321 Firefox/1.0+

Is my current and I install over it with the new trunks. One issue is Extensions and so far the HTML Vlaidator Based on Tidy crashes this thing so hard I have to format the system again and reinstall it since it does not show where the balance of the /usr files are.

Is now so proficient at installing Slackware 10.1 and getting it configured in 45 minutes with boot up and running alsa and all the rest is now a breeze with little or no issues.

Im using RH 7.3,
I have the glibc development package installed, its version 3.2, i dont have to downgrade to 2.3 to install do i??

I found somewhere i should install compat-libstdc++-3.2-1.i386.rpm
But when i go to install i get an error saying it conflicts with gcc, even if i force install!

Or do i even need this file!

I doubt if Redhat 7.3 would be using glibc 3.x because the latest glib is still 2.3.x. Double check what version of glib you have installed by doing
Code:
$rpm -qa | grep -i glibc

I have Slackware 10.1 and In the Firefox Installer directory from gzip extractions, open the folder in KDE or GNome click the installer script, it will install and no problems.

installing firefox 1.5 on red hat 8 - glibc error

hi everyone, installing firefox 1.5 on RH8 and I get the following error:

./firefox-bin: /lib/i686/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.3.2' not found (required by ./libnspr4.s

went here to get updated glibc package:

https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2...%20Linux%208.0

but the file seems to be missing (not supported anymore?) Any suggestions where I can get the update? Should I install an earlier version of firefox that matches my older glibc-2.2.93-5. I guess I should upgrade to RH9 or Fedora already. Thanks.
