firefox helper applications...

hi all,
I'm running FC4 on my laptop, using Firefox as browser and acrobat reader 7.0 as pdf reader and I want to open the pdf in my web browser but something is simply not working! I cannot open pdf files.
If i do "about:plugins" in the address bar it looks like it is installed the plugin to run acroread but there is even mozplugger which is able to handle pdf files...is this a problem? can there be a conflict? How can I change mozplugger so that it cannot handle pdf file?
Moreover if I go in Edit>Preferences>Downloads and look for Plug-ins, only mid is installed...how come I cannot see all the others????
Just to give you more info, Mozilla does have the same problem, it cannot open pdf files.

I've looked through the whole site, checked all the threads and posts including any plugins problem like mine but nothing similar.

If anyone have some clue please let me know...
Thank you very much
Ale
