firefox DNS searching

Hello,

I have a computer used as Internet gateway when Internet access is up, and as web server when Internet access is down.

When internet is down, the displaying of local website on clients computers (under firefox) is too slow (2-3minutes) instead of some seconds when Internet access is up !!
I have seen that the problem can be solve by deleting DNS server from the resolv.conf file of clients computers. But it is not a good solution because I need DNS when Internet access is up.

So the problem is that firefox search DNS for a long time. So how to forbit the DNS searching of Firefox ? Or how to reduce the timeout of this DNS search ?
Do you have a solution for this problem ?

Thanks
Cococh

you could install a dns daemon on the gateway (and configure the LAN machines to use that instead)... then put the addresses of your local websites in the gateway's /etc/hosts file... that way even when the internet is down, the DNS will resolve normally for all the machines making requests for local websites...

just my two cents...
