Angry Firefox and Java

Hi guys,

Im trying to get Java running on Firefox, although whatever I try, it seems to not work at all.

Ive searched the web site, and most of the threads come up with installing it as per the instructions on the Java web site

Ive done that, and then created a link. Although it does not work at all on Java sites.

Anyone have any ideas?

Yep. I follow the instructions religously

Installed Java in the /usr directory, then went to where my Firefox was installed and created a symbolic link.

Would just copying the plugin to the Firefox plugin directory make it work?

Did you use the Sun version of Java or the Blackdown version.I have never got the Sun version to work...you should try out www.blackdown.org
IF you install this JRE and then follow the instructions on mozillla's site....i dont think you should have any problems...well i didnt.
Peace

hmm...i just got the Sun version of java to work...are you sure you are giving the right symbolic link address of libjavaplugin.so.I had made this mistake earlier...i did this:
ln -s libjavaplugin.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
which gave it a wrong link.
i did ls -l and the output i got was:
libjavaplaugin.so -> libjavaplugin.so which is obviously wrong.
to fix this i did:
ln -s /full_path_to_plugin/libjavaplugin.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
and now it works just fine.I do now know if you made the same mistake but if you did then this should solve the problem.

rmanocha, you bloody legend

Did that and it works like a treat now.
If your ever in Sydney, I owe you a couple of beers

Why didnt the original link command work?

I just followed the instructions on the Sun site which is the first command, and then I tried the second one which you suggested and it worked.

Sydney...here i come.
Well the first command did not work 'cause the link was pointing to itself...kind of an infinite recursive loop. When you gave the full path to the link...then it actually knew where to look for the real plugin file.
