Firefox 3.0.1 Won't Save or Manage Bookmarks Properly

When I add a bookmark to any given folder, it never appears there, but only in the "recently Bookmarked" folder. Moreover, the bookmark 'manager' doesn't always move it when requested; I have to edit the html file.

The permissions of the bookmark file are OK. I've deleted the localstore.rdf file and let FF recreate it. I've started FF in safe mode as directed in the FF Knowledge Base, to no avail.

Anyone else having bookmark probs with FF 3? Is a reinstall in order?

Did you try completely deleting your whole user profile in the .mozilla folder (not just the RDF file)? Before you do this, make sure to backup your bookmarks.html file first). I know I've had problems with bookmarks not saving upon restart due to a unknown corrupt file in the user profile.

Excellent suggestion! I moved the entire profile elsewhere, then restarted FF. I had to go thru the EULA stuff, but the bookmark problem seems to have vanished (for now).

Well, my joy has been short-lived indeed. I don't know what's going on at this point, or what I might have done/not done, but FF 3.0.1 is still refusing to handle bookmarks properly.

The odd part is that I can see bookmarks in the "Organize" window that never appear when the bookmark page displays.

OK, Opera chokes on Flash pix, but at least it did OK with bookmarks.
