Sounds like inadequate graphics hardware/drivers. Then again, it's not surprising when you mention the word "Fedora" in the same sentence as your gripe.
I had Fedora Core 6, took two weeks to get it on-line, had to download some updates with Windows before it happened, and then there was the "dependency hell" thing to deal with. Then I downloaded and installed Fedora 7 x86_64, some days it booted up in normal amounts of time, some days it took ten minutes and everything was at a snail's pace till it was re-booted. A couple days ago I gave it another chance and downloaded the 32bit version and installed it in Vmware on a Windows XP Pro host, after f**king around for a couple days trying to get it updated, I banged my head against the wall four times and deleted it, snapped the DVD in half and chucked it.
I like the blue balloon desktop!
