firebird/mozilla backspace
 

how do i make my backspace key work as a 'back' button in mozilla/firebird browser(s)?!? it works in all KDE, but those 2 like it their way :)
it's kind a trivial, unimportant question, but i really need that key!!! (it's much quicker)

for firebird, why not just download the mouse gestures extension and then you can configure mouse button combos to do previous/forward/etc...

jes, but i have a 5-mouse buttons, and don't know how to configure those 2 buttons...mouse gestures give me the option to da a left-click while holding a right button, not a perfect solution...but then again...maybe i'll just stick on that...
and while i'm on the firebird subject, i had a font problem (weren't antialiased) so i downloaded a nightly build with xft support, erased the old firebird folder (i only had to untar it - so i guess that 'uninstalled' it) and untarred the new one, but this time in /home/nechos/apps/MozillaFirebird folder. i made a link on desktop to 'MozillaFirebird' file, but it's not working...why?thanx

in your link, is the execute command "/home/nechos/apps/MozillaFirebird/MozillaFirebird" ?

i'm assuming the first MozillaFirebird is the firebird directory. i guess also make sure the MozillaFirebird script in the MozillaFirebird directory has the execute permissions set for user.

yes - the first 'MF' is dir, the second a file.
i've untarred it as user (not root) so all the permissions are there (i've also checked to make sure)...any other suggestions? maybe mit should be installed in some other dir, like /usr/local or /usr/share ?da i have to make a soft link to 'MF' ? i think i've made one with previous version (it wasn't working perfectly) and i don't think i've removed it...could that be a problem?thanx

just trying to get help from someone - konqueror is killing me, and i have no idea of what could have gone wrong with firebird (re)installation...help!!

Some more details would help. Was it a landmark build or a nightly? (copy and paste the string from Help> About Mozilla Firebird like so Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031011 Firebird/0.7+ (persist,gtk2+xft)) What extensions did you install? Probably the easiest way to get it working again is to delete it and reinstall. If you still have the .tar.gz you downloaded, extract a new copy. If you don't, try the 0.7 release candidate http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firebird/nightly/latest-0.7/

this is the Nightly i tried to install: MozillaFirebird-i686-linux-gtk2+xft.tar.gz (i can't show you "about" stuff since i can't open Firebird...)
the thing is, i had MozillaFirebird-0.6.1-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz which is a stable version, but it didn't have xft (antia-aliased fots) support - everything was barely readable...
someone on this forum suggested me to download nightly...
i've deleted the old firebird dir (but, might have left some plugins - though i can't find them now) and untarred new nightly into my /home/nechos/apps dir, and made a link on desktop...but firebird doesn't want to open...

Yeah the gtk2+xft official nightlies aren't working at the moment for some people. There is a patch that works but it hasn't been checked in yet. Try the 0.7 rc I suggested above.

Hi Nechos,

I had the same problem and indeed is really annoying.
At last I realize Mozilla uses a different key-combination in Linux.
You have to press Alt + Left arrow.
It is less useful that just Backspace but...
