Fine tunning mencoder video capture

I was trying to figure out what are the 'lavc' and 'lavcopts' available for mencoder, but the man page isn't too detailed.
Could someone point me to the correct documents?

thanks!

Someyimes the info you want is in someone elses distro - it may need some converting though. In the end, a completely customised linux is unique.

Couldn't agree more with that!

mencoder might be the example where a very nice software looses users because of poor documentation. Not that it doesn't have, but its scattered all over, way too much.

If there is a strong need for decent docs on this, then maybe some of us could get together and write one?

We sure could. My guess is the work would be more like building a complete in-depth guide based on what already exists, instead of actually writing.
But, as users, we could also query the devs on this issue, firstly, right?

And get referred to a support forum?
Of course, they may know of just the place to get the definitive manual...
