finding and uninstalling a rpm

Hello,

I have installed some rpms that i would like to uninstall, but I don't know where they were installed to since it does it automatically. Is there a standard directory or a command I can use to find where they are? And when I find them, how do i uninstall them?

Thanks,

The command rpm -e softwarename should uninstall the software. There may be another way if they are packages installed from the distribution (assuming RH or MDK), there is a package manager that is point and click.

Code:
rpm -aq|grep <name>
will give you a list like:

$ rpm -aq|grep kernel
kernel-2.4.18-14
kernel-source-2.4.18-26.8.0

then you run:
Code:
rpm -e <packet name>

rpm's are not installed "to" anywhere, the files in the rpm are distributed across the system to the required locations. some in /etc, some in /usr/lib, some somewhere else etc.

uninstalling source

Some source make files include a command to remove the program, most do not. The way I handle the problem is by using the checkinstall program. At the point in your source compile where you issue a make install command then you issue checkinstall instead. checkinstall does the make install. It also creates and installs a rpm package for you. Then if you want to remove the package you can do a rpm -e packagename.

checkinstall

just: checkinstall

But first you have to download and install checkinstall
