WINE runs *some* windows applications on linux and these need to be installed to the 'fake' windows directory. As far as I know WINE can't handle running an app from your xp partition unless you have everything the app will need (dll's, registry settings etc) installed and set-up in the 'fake' windows directory. This is because, as I understand it, although WINE is running the executable from a different partition, it is using the 'fake' windows directory for any needed files. I suppose it would be like running a stand alone executable from a network share, windows will be looking on the clients hard disk for any required files.
Also, I know they are charging for it, but WineX is better for running games.
