filesystem backup to DVD

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hello all.. I've finally built my first working linux system, and now want to back it up to DVD+R. What is the best way to go about doing this and are there any utilities available to allow me to automatically burn backups on a regular basis? I am running slackware 9.1 with two reiserfs partitions. Any help would be really appreciated!

You can create DVDs with dvdrecord. You can use cron to automatically run your dvdrecord script at set times. However you have to have a blank DVD alread in the DVD drive whenever the cron job starts.

ok, i was able to use dar combined with growisofs and script a cron job that seems to work nicely, allowing me to burn to DVD+RW. However, I've read that by using the ISO filesystem that each time you mount the dvd it writes to disk, effectively shorting the lifespan of the media each time. Has anyone used UDF format instead? I have kernel 2.6.4 and supposedly includes UDF filesystem support, but don't think this extends to writing to DVD media.

That's what I want to do. I installed dar, and it seems to work, but can't write to the DVD drive - error says "readonly filesystem". How do you do the growisofs and cron parts?
