file sharing program
are there any linux file sharing programs availible worth mentioning I would really like to know
|
last time i checked a program named "SAMBA" was really really good. :D
|
ok I will check it out
............umm looks really complicated... |
That was cruel, manthram :D
s9722, I guess you want a peer to peer file sharing app, instead of something to help network local linux and windows pcs together. |
how so ?
|
come on proud I was just telling him, no pun intended on my part;)
|
yep p2p I guess I should have been specific....my bad:(
|
kazaa works fine
|
ahh ok cool I can do kazza:)
hey I got a question how do people get those really cool monitors on their desktops? I got the crappy default ones and I dont knwo how to change them to the line graphs... ya know the panel monitors for the CPU and memory? |
Search sourceforge.org for a large list of the popular ones. I think if you have faster than a 56K you might be interested in BitTorrent.
Kazza is gay from all I've heard, at least try KazaaLite. Also, either would need Wine to run in linux, better to get something compiled for linux, not windows. I have no p2p apps! Waiting for uni broadband connection first... ;) Get GKrellm and some themes for a nice monitoring app. |
lol
|
xcpustate is a good cpu monitor. download the rpm and install it
|
ok I will try it
but I doubt it will work... I cant seem to get anythign installed not even the new galeon.... it says it need a version of mozilla and all kinds of stuff.... |
yeah that happenes. whenever you are trying to install a X based application it asks for alot of dependencies. one cant help but find a suitable application compatabile with your exsisting environment or install all the dependencies
|
umm can I get a direct link to this monitor because it seems I cant find a working download link anywhere
once again I am useing redhat linux 7.3 if that matter at all... |
It will really really help to install any set of development packages which may have come with your distro, I think RedHat has such a group. These will be sources, header and library files which is usually what another app wants to satisfy any dependancies. :)
|
the best place to find an rpm if here
|
would these dev packages you are speaking of be called source cd 1 and 2?
or would that be the linux source code? the only other disks I got were word perfect 8 for linux and the 3 install cds and a documentation cd I foudn the one for my distro at the site you gave but it wont let me download it it says too many connections from you internet or somthing like that please put up a direct link to it just incase I am clicking the wrong link I am getting this when I click the other link Plugger: No appropriate application for type audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin found! |
When you installed linux, did you have a section where you could pick which apps to install?
Have you used any frontend for rpm, maybe Kpackage or grpmi? The packs of libraries etc could easily fill 2 cds, do those disks contain rpm files? You shouldnt need the source for most apps, as rpms are usually the pre-compiled binaries for your system and processor architecture. Some rpms are packs of source files, such as the kernel sources. :) Oh, and for even more fun, RedHat doesnt come with MP3 support out of the box, you have to download a small plugin. It also uses a broken compiler or library iirc, which makes upgrading or installing from source a real bitch, or so it seems. Never had those probs with Mandrake. Plus the Galaxy theme smokes Bluecurve :D |
umm what is bluecurve>?
|
red hat 7.3 is still my fave - check out my guide for more info on red hat and linux in general, there is also a section on filesharing apps including using kazaalite thru wine - the link is below in my signature. If you need any further help, pm me or icq me if ya want.
