File Association Problem

I am trying to set the default file association for PDF files. I am using RH9 and Gnome. I have tried using the “file types and programs” but if I add a pdf file ass. It does not save it. There is no PDF ass. Under doc>published ( i removed that thinking that was the problem. I also opened a file and used the other app option and I can assign a default or add to the menu for that file only. If I choose the default / or add to menu for all files of this type it does not save. Also I had no problems setting this up for the root account. Any clues or suggestions ? Well its not life threatening but i would appreciate the help

Thanks Bob

When I'm in Gnome I do file associations using Nautilus. (Right click->Associate File ... or something like that). On my machine where I don't have Gnome installed (but still use lots of its apps and libraries, I edit a text file in my ~/.gnome directory directly. When I get home if you'd like I could post the location of the file ...

for what its worth,

I'll post it and some mime entries when I get home (in about 6 hours).
