fglrx + kde + xgl + beryl: seemingly random stalls...

hi everyone,

i'm using beryl svn + xgl on my radeon x1300 card with the latest ati drivers (8.33.6) and kernel 2.6.19 on gentoo. beryl works great, the effects are fantastic and everything, but when i open some windows (especially those with text fields and that are kde windows, for example a rightclick - properties window on a desktop item seems to be a particularly bad customer...) beryl seems to stall. here's the weirdest thing though - i still have a mouse cursor, and i can still use my desktop, but everything freezes until i invoke some sort of gl effect, for example making one of my windows wobble. but then, as soon as it stops wobbling, it freezes again!

all of this is temporarily solved by a restart of my x session.

any ideas? anyone else have a similar problem?

thanks in advance.

You're using development code; you gotta expect problems. Did you check the Beryl Project bug tracker?

yeah, this bug is the reason i'm using development code :P there is a similar sounding bug on the bug tracker (http://bugs.beryl-project.org/ticket/735), but unfortunately no solution. could it be a problem to do with my qt/kde libs? is it worth re-emerging them?

grooveharder, do you have any good instructions or hints for installing Beryl? I'm using an ATIx1600. Yes, I do have the 3-d rendering working. Just wondering how you installed Beryl with ATI.
Thanks,
dion
