Hi,
My .fetchmailrc file does not have the `fetchall' option. Still, evertime I run fetchmail, it retrieves both old and new messages. As a result, I am getting multiple copies of the old messages. FYI, I am also using the `keep' option in my .fetchmailrc file, just to play it safe.
The problem is that you're not deleting your messages on the server, so, everytime they will download, cause fetchmail retrieves all messages. The only solution is to delete them (on the server) once you got them in your mailbox.
Remove the "keep" option on your config file.
Thanks for your reply.
I am not sure if `keep' is causing this problem. Then what is the point of the `fetchall' command ? I mean, keeping old messages on the server and retrieving them should be two different things, right ? Or am I missing something ?
Taking a look to fetchmail's help, the keep option says to not delete the messages from the server. But, how do you tell the fetchmail which are the new messages and old ones?? You should make some rules for fetchmail that i don't know if they're available for getting the new mail.
Maybe there's an option to put a mark on the old mails, but this would mean to write on the server, something I don't think you're able to do directly, but you can tell the server to put a mark on them. You should take a look to your ISP services to see if that option is available. If so, fetchmail will retrieve only the new messages (default action). fetchall will retrieve them all.
My advise is that you talk to your ISP to see wether it's possible to mark already seen messages or not.
