Fedora Core 5 & Yahoo DSL

Can anybody suggest how to connect Fedora Core 5 with Yahoo DSL through a router?

SpeadStream 5100 is connected to MN-700 router from which there is a cable to a box with Feodra core.

Thank you.

For home connections like this, there are two sides to the router, the WAN side and the LAN side.

The WAN configuration information is supplied by your ISP. They will tell you if you need PPPoE or PPPoA, and the correct parameters to enter. DHCP on the ISP side is common, but not always the way the ISP will want it set up. Usually you will have a user ID and password for their system. Most routers can store this information, so you enter it once, and any time you connect the router will authenticate with the ISP.

The LAN side is up to you. You can set it up with or without DHCP. I use both on my home network. Machines that are not portable are set up with static IP addresses. The laptops are set up for DHCP. Connect your machines with ethernet cable or wireless, depending on the capabilities of your router and nic's.

The ISP will tell you what the DNS addresses are, if you ask.

The documentation that comes with the router will tell you how to connect to it to configure it. Most of the ones I have looked at use the same approach. Connect one system with a web browser. The router will have a default configuration. Open up the browser, and enter the IP address of the router in the URL bar. A user and password screen should show up. If it doesn't consult the documentation. Either the IP address you entered is wrong, or you have not entered an address in to the host system, in the range of sub-net the router is configured for.

That is about it. The key is reading the doc that came with it, and talk to your ISP to find out what the WAN side needs for configuration.

Hi again,

I made a typo in my previous message.
I have SpeadStream 4100 NOT 5100 but it does not make much difference.

Here is detailed explanation of my problem.

If I directly connect my laptop with SpeadStream 4100 I can get online. However when I connect it though MN-700 router I can't.
I see icon that I am connected but no pages can load except http://mn-700. Same happens if I connect wirelessly.

What could be the problem here?

Thank you.

How have you configured the Router? Is it doing the PPPoE? ( or PPPoA ). Did you configure the ISP side for DHCP or a fixed IP address? How are you entering your User and Password information when the router is installed?
Can you ping from your system to the router? Can you ping the DNS servers of yoru ISP?
