Fedora Core 4 Install Lockup

Hey Guys, anyone running into any problems installing fedora core 4 on a sata harddrive. The dam thing freezes up with a white screen plus the mouse locks up right after the cd test. Anyone ran into that, just wondering if I have a bad cd, the test says its fine, who knows. Oh also, for fedora, what should the partition type be set to ... Linux system 83 ? or something else, I've tried the noprobe command and it locks up every stinkin time. Any ideas

It is about a year since I was installing Fedora Core 3 on my mirrored dual SATA disk (RAID-1) and I vaguely remember I had to use installation floppy with sata (raid??) driver. But in general, I have installed a FC4 on my wife's computer with SATA disk and it worked without any problems.

Bye,
Robert

I ran into that last summer working for a network test lab. I was installing FC4 on newer systems that used SATA on Intel's ICH7 southbridge (mostly Dell systems).

The way I got around it was to use Mandriva 2005 for testing on those systems. Same base kernel (2.6.11), just different vendor patches. FC5 should work when it is released, but until then, you might need to either get an updated boot kernel or switch to a different distro. FC4 has an updated kernel, but I haven't figured out how to slipstream it into an installation image yet (used to be simple).
