fedora core 2 test 2 not loading xserver or x

Hello. I am having difficulty with my xserver. I am running fedora core 2 test 2, as it is the newest thing out there (is that a mistake?). Everything loaded ok, and then last night I went to do updates for the KDM package set. up2date said that everything went ok, and then I rebooted, and it seemes that the xserver is not on anymore. I have run into this with another distro, and simply needed to fire up the xserver, but i do not know how to do it in rhfc2t2. I have tried xfree86, to configure, tried system-config stuff, but none of it has brought up the configuration for xfree86, or the server. any help would be apreciated.

Update: I had to switch hard drive to get the exact wording for what it is doing. here is what it says:

xinit: No such file or directory (errno2): no server "X" in PATH
xinit: No such file or directory (errno2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno3): server error

I am trying to get this up and working, but if I have to, I will reload.....
I am new to this whole linux thing, and I hope that someone can help.

oh... Still can't figure out how to configure the xserver.

I am sorry... I don't know how to recompile stuff. as for re-installing my graphics driver, I think that I am using just a generic driver, not one that is specific to my video card. I have an ait radeon 9600 pro.
