FDisk partition types


Can someone tell me the difference between primary and extended partition

I believe a primary partition is used if you plan to install an operating system on it, while a logical (extended) usually doens't have an operating system on it, although I believe it doesn't matter for Linux, here's some quick sites I found doing a search on google.
