fdisk doubt

I've one phisical disk, with three partitions on it.

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 3648 29302528+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda2 3649 7234 28804545 83 Linux
/dev/hda3 7235 7296 498015 82 Linux swap / Solaris

As I removed windows from my PC, I want to use the partition /dev/hda1 as a "linux" partition (id:83).

So, the doubt is... if I change the second partiotion's Id (t command) from 28(ntfs) to 83 (linux) and then I save the changes (w command).... will the data on hda2 be lost????????

Thanks a lot!!

Welcome to LQ.

It should not be lost. Although when modifying partition tables it is usually a good idea to do it when the filesystems are not mounted.
