fc6 yum install error multiple repository entries

I have just upgraded from fc3_64bit to fc6_64bit by dvd. Tragically, yum is not functioning.
For example;

[jon@localhost ~]$ sudo yum update
Password:
Repository livna-testing is listed more than once in the configuration
Repository extras is listed more than once in the configuration
Setting up Update Process

Error: Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: livna-stable
[jon@localhost ~]$

The *'s were added as I can't post url's. Please ignore them. Sorry.

Hopefully you can see the type of problem I have had, but I am new to linux and inept. I have searched for the mentioned files, but I can only find one file called livna-testing.repo, and one called extras.repo, and there are several called repomd.xml, but they all have read permission, and I'm not convinced any have anything to do with livna-stable.

Anyway, any help you can give me would be great,
thanks for your time,
Jon

There seem to be problems with the livna repo. Try doing something like
Code:

#yum update --disablerepo=livna
or
Code:

#yum update --disablerepo=livna-stable

joncampbell60 11-21-2006 10:07 PM

cheers - but no luck

thanks for your time. I tried both your suggestions (and one similar) and had a limited amount of luck. I get the same errors, although at least it looked like trying to do something. Might it help to disable more than one repo, and if so, how do you do it? Here is my xterm readout:(again, please ignore the *'s)

I appreciate any help immensely,

You do not really need the livna testing repo because it contains experimental packages which may or may not work properly on your system. You will get the very same packages when they are moved to the livna stable repo. I am not sure why the commands won't work for you because I have just tried "yum upgrade --disablerepo=livna" and it works fine for me.

joncampbell60 11-22-2006 08:09 AM

again, cheers. delete things as root; help

thanks for that too. I have disabled 'livna.repo', and all other livna files with enable option are disabled too. Still get the same error. Should I really delete these files? What about the other errors? cheers for your help.

The only errors I see are about the livna repo. I am not sure why disabling the repo is not working fine, because like I mentioned earlier, it works fine for me. Did you use the livna-release rpm to setup the Livna repo?

joncampbell60 11-22-2006 08:25 PM

Oh dear. I don't know why either. I did use the rpm to install the livna repos. A mistake? Cheers for your help. I may have a go at removing then reinstalling yum, as someone said that it worked for a similar problem for them. Any advice on that I'd appreciate. If I get it working one way or another I'll post here again.
Thanks for your time,
xxx

aaahhh: bisto

Aaahh. That's better. I've now got yum working, after many trials and tribulations. Thanks to yous that posted replies here - it was much appreciated. Having wondered the web searching for souls lost in the same place as it were, I have followed countless tidbits of advice on how to solve my problems. I swore I would post my end-term solution, so here it is, even if you don't like it:
I formatted my computer.
Hmm, well, incidentally I guess. After much failure, I reinstalled fc6 (from dvd). I suspect that it was this fresh install, rather than the upgrade that has resolved whatever the problem was.
