I have upgraded by dvd from fc3_64 to fc6_64. My yum does not work (multiple livna repos errno14, which are not actually there more than once). I have had no luck with any of many suggested changes, so I think it will be best to remove and then reinstall it. Ideally, I would like to install it from the dvd as my internet connection is very sloooww.
So: is removing and reinstalling yum a good idea?
if so, can I do it from the dvd, and if so how?
if not, how can I do it on via the internet?
and especially, what files should I delete?
I have been told that this would do the trick:
"rpm -e yum-3.0-.0-6"
"rpm -ivh yum-xyz". "rpm -F"

However, will this really remove all the correct files, and where do I need to put what files from the dvd to let this work.

Have you tried cleaning out yum's cache with "yum clean all"? If you've got something corrupted in the cache this should get rid of it. In general reinstalling yum is only helpful if the program itself has gotten corrupted.

cheers for that. I don't think the problem is a corruption in yum, but I was hoping it would delete the extra files. When I type in your command I get:

[jon@localhost ~]$ sudo yum clean all
Password:
Repository livna-testing is listed more than once in the configuration
Repository extras is listed more than once in the configuration
Cleaning up Everything
[jon@localhost ~]$

Any ideas. I can find only one copy of each of all the repo files, and all the livna ones are disabled. I have had some suggestions, but none have worked. I guess I was going to remove and reinstall yum in desperation. Could it work? Any yum command fails and mentions these multiple file errors.

Hey. Cheers for the advice. For the record, I failed to get yum working by rewriting files from the dvd, or any other vague plan, but in the end decided to reinstall fc6 (originally it was an upgrade), and now yum is working fine. Thanks for your time,
