Fc4 - X11

Dear Fedora Core 4 gurus

After last upgrade from Sunday the 18th. I am not able to start graphical mode on my laptop Dell Latitude D505. Doesn't help to set generic display or Dell's laptop display and generic driver or Intel 852 (855). I can look only at spots on the display. So I can work since that time only in text mode.

Thank you for a help.

The solution I made

I returned to the previous xorg-* files. When I did upgrade the first of September, I didn't delete those old files. So I switched to the directory:
cd /var/cache/yum/updates-released/packages
then I removed files:
rm xorg-*.1.i386.rpm
in the end I did:
rpm -Uvh --oldpackage xorg-*.rpm
and now all work again.

Hoi,

The same problem occurred on my Dell Dimension 3000, and others reported similar issues.

Apparently, there is still a bug in the new 6.8.2 version xorg-x11 that works with the i810 drivers. Sofar I've not been able to find a solution, but maybe this will work. I've not tried it myself as I'm not near my PC now.

Let me know if it works.

I think there is another upgrade to xorg, so try running "yum upgrade".

Hi Reddazz,

In my case the problem arose when I used yum to upgrade so I got the latest xorg-x11 version. Sofar I've not found a newer version of xorg-x11.

Regards,
Regulus
