FC3 newest kernel!

ok I just got the updates for fedora core 3 and upgraded to kernal version 2.6.10-1.760 and this was from version 2.6.9-1.667. Question is why does the new kernal halt the computer when loading CUPS or the printing starter service, i have never tried using the printer in this distro and frankly i don't think it'll work but if it helps i have a compaq ij1200,
thanks in advance for helping
