Fax server on Windows Network

Hi,

My goal is the following. I want to implement a linux fax server with hylafax. I want hylafax to send the faxes, receive them and send them by mail with sendmail.
And here comes the trick: I want to demonstrate that we can do it with Linux and free software, but the administrators are on the Netherlands, so I don't have admin rights. Do you think it's possible to start samba server and make it visible on the domain?

Thanks a lot

SMB runs on port 426, which is a privilaged port — so you will need admin rights to start a Samba server on that port.

However, you might be able to work around that by putting samba on an unprivilaged port and running it as a regular user. This will have to be the same user who is running hylafax. You can then use a Windows machine to run a port forwarder (http://freshmeat.net/search/?q=port+...&Go.x=0&Go.y=0) connecting port 426 on itself to an unprivalaged port (>1024) on the Linux machine.
