Question Favourite audio app?

I'm considering writing an audio app which sits on top of another given applicaton. I want to change the way people interface with their stored audio.

Personally, I use totem, but I'd like to know what everyone else uses so I can support a couple of players initially.

This is strictly for audio.

Xine and Mplayer shouldn't be there, as they are used basically to watch video, no for listening to mp3 (althought they can do it).
My vote goes for xmms and if i could vote twice, my second would go to mp3blaster

I use to be a big fan of XMMS but recently I switched to amaroK because of it's ability to run in my task bar.

xmms & mpg321

And I agree - totem, mplayer and xine shouldn't be here :)

Re: Favourite audio app?

When I'm on slow computers I use mpg321, but xmms is very useful when shaded and shoved in the top corner of the screen on any thing post 200Mhz. (It does run on my P150 but not fantastically well with other GUI programs).

Interesting, any hints as to what you're doing or is it all top secret?! :)

Madman + XMMS seem to be a great combination, especially for people with large... you know... music collections.

Thumbs up

as i have a huge amount of audio files, (and i am a newbie, so i really haven't tried anything else ) i have been using juk (suse 9.1 personal) it seems to work ok, though when u load 15000 plus mp3's it takes a long time, not as fast as the playlist in winamp.

rhythmbox, mplayer or xmms are my favourites.
Rhythmbox uses the GStreamer multimedia framework (www.gstreamer.net) to play songs. I think this is a good API to write an interface with lots of plugins for many file types.

These applications, including Totem, can be used and are used to play audio media, so they are included in the poll. I use Totem myself as opposed to xmms, simply because it matches my desktop graphically.

SBing, its not that top secret at all, and I'm afraid it might be the opposite...but I'll make it available for download soon if anyone is interested. I just have very limited internet access at the moment (which reminds me...pardon my late response)..

I made this application because I copied all my albums onto my PC...yet looking at folders with file names never inspired me to play music - however, looking at the album covers on my CD rack did. So my program mimicks your stack of cd's by showing the spines of the covers and allowing you to select one.

This loads an entire CD, which you can scan through. Also, a config tool lets you select which app you want to do this through.

At the moment I support xmms, ogg123, totem. But I will add all the others mentioned at this poll.

I will post a link to the app soon, and I will appreciate any feedback. Just bear in mind that it is an early version, and I'm programming alone!

That sounds like a pretty cool idea. I'm going to be very intersted once I get my hands on it.

As for my daily audio needs, I use xmms almost exclusively. I've yet to see a program that I like better.
