Favorite web browser?

Whats you favorite web browser? I prefer FireFox. My least favorite is konqueror, I like to use it as a file manager. Some people are constantly complaining that windows use IE every where explorer, IE. Same thing with konqueror in linux.

johnson_steve 06-06-2005 09:57 PM

I like Konqueror. I think that since firefox has to run on everything it's not as intergrated with kde as I would like ( cut and paste issues , stuff with im) they are both mozilla based and much more secure than IE. konqueror isn't like IE for linux it's a fully intergrated browser for kde only lots of folks don't like or run kde at all. I wouldn't either if I only had 256Mb of ram.

colinstu 06-06-2005 09:59 PM

I have 256mb of mem too. And I run konqueror on a live cd!It isn't that bad.

titanium_geek 06-06-2005 10:07 PM

firefox - hands down.

I also hate KDE- which might have something to do with the fact that I dislike konq- especially under gnome.

FIREFOX ROCKS!

johnson_steve 06-06-2005 10:12 PM

no I was talking about your amount of ram I saw it in your sig. I only run kde 'cause I have 2Gb of ram on my desktop all my other computers have less and run IceWm, xfce, or no X at all I think If you tried a lighter wm like xfce you might notice quite a jump in speed.

Arnaud_B 06-06-2005 10:19 PM

firefox... konqueror is good and even maybe faster sometimes but I still prefer firefox :-)

colinstu 06-06-2005 10:21 PM

When I use Window Maker or IceWM, it is a lot faster. I just like KDE for some reason. (The first time in my life to see linux, had KDE) Here is the story: My dad had to get some USB floppy drive at CompUSA, one you walk inside, they had a little Shuttle computer, with Knoppix on it. I played with it as long as I could until we had to leave. Then a week later, my Dad had to buy a PCI fan cooler thing, and I used it some more, then once I got home I begged my Dad for me to get it, he bought it from linuxcentral for me and thats that. Thats how I was introduced to linux in real life. Years before that I knew about linux, but never real cared about it. Then I used my Mac for a while (mac powerbook 520c) and thought about other OSs etc, and then I got sucked into linux again.

I like Konq too but its not mozilla based. It uses KHTML.

Just what I was going to say, Safari uses KHTML too just a FYI. The GNOME browser (Galeon) uses Gecko but.

Much quicker on my machine, that's true. I like Konqueror, I use Firefox on a daily basis, though.
Both are very good

Fave Browser

Opera.
Even with the advertisements.
Always been my fave since I first got that special MSIE feeling back in '95, i.e. "what the hell is IE doing? and where IS it? and where is it PUTTING things? and where did my disk space go? and why can't I change how it behaves?

For some reason I have division of labour amongst browsers.
Makes a kind of sense.
Konq for technical, OS-related, linux questions etc.
Firefox for business. Let the cache fill up with the same sites I go to all the time. Plain configuration -- Just leave it light and fast.
Opera for personal, browsing art and entertainment. Also pretty light and fast but I must try to get some plugins working.

I thought I would hate Konq for being integrated like IE is -- but as a newb I just got hooked on convenience.

One gripe: Moz and Opera have both let the bookmarks business get too complicated. I can't get them to behave any more. First visited date, last visited etc, --- who needs that?

charlescpc 06-07-2005 11:07 PM

Put me down for Opera too version 8.
My second choice would be firefox.
I love having the different tabs to choose my web pages.
It's pretty fast too.
I carry a copy of opera on my pendrive so If I have to use another computer I can install it right there. I use both Linux and windows versions...

I think microsoft is about to loose the browser war even thought they are supposed to be comming out with a new browser.

~=gr3p=~ 06-08-2005 12:41 AM

i like mozilla firefox too but i am forced to use Opera at my work place since our company uses squid proxy server and for some reason i do not know firefox doesn't load web pages complaining please check your proxy settings and all shit eventhough the proxy settings are correct  but opera runs smooth :)
the same problem occurs with firefox in windows client machines so the windows lovers here use the bullshit IE and not like to use opera :(

prj 06-08-2005 06:54 AM

Definately Opera for me, especially now version 8 is about.

I thought Firefox was a bit too close to Netscape for my liking although its not bad.

Konqueror, I use as a file explorer and is magic as an FTP client (IE is also good at this!).

I would like to see Safari come across to Linux as this by all accounts is "bees knees".
Might happen too if what I read on KDE.news was correct.
