First, fluxbox is not a Desktop enviroment is a windows manager and yes, is free


Second, maybe you can obtain a lots answers to your question in this threat

2. Why yes, Fluxbox does is a free Desktop environment, as matter of fact. Actually, it's more of a window manager. People seem to like because it doesn't use up a lot of resources. I've switched to KDE because I found that Fluxbox is kind of buggy, probably because the development release is the only one still supported.

nah ... use icewm and/or blackbox instead ... while kde/gnome are for the families ... for example wivies and kids and mama and papa ... and probably colleagues/comrades too ...
