Fast, Functional Torrent Client

Hello,

I've been using Azureus for a while and its just not cutting it for me anymore. I would like to still be able to surf the internet at a reasonable pace while still downloading torrents. I know there are a lot of good torrent clients available, I'm just not that familiar with many of them. I'd like to know what you use (other than Azureus) that is simple, fast, and still functional. Please also let me know why you chose it over something else, if you considered others.

Thanks,
~Justin

www.freshmeat.net

I'm currnetly using the default bit-torrent regarding Ubuntu. It's called well bittorrent.

There are tons of project to choose from considering the freshmeat website. I usually look at the popularity of the programs and then investigate further after that. Since Gnome, KDE, and XFCE possess their own default bittorrents clients. You might want to check those out. They are usually pretty basic but they do the job.

Here is a quick search:

I didn't know XFCE had its own client. I'll take a look at that since I've recently moved to XFCE.

"BitTorrent" is a protocol. Clients are just interfaces to it. If you want to cut down on your uploading speeds, CPU time, RAM when running bitTorrent you can run the switches...

Code:

bittorrent-curses --max_upload_rate bytes --max_uploads num your.torrent
To utilize your bandwidth.

but will this completely eat up by bandwidth? What I mean is, will I still be able to use the internet for other stuff while it is running?

No, it wont eat your bandwidth because you are limiting how much is being uploaded. And yes, you can still surf the net when running it. Are you on dial-up?

Thanks for the input.

I've been looking around, but I can't find the XFCE bittorrent client. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
~Justin
