Talking Fast editor needed

Hello all, I am in need of a fast editor to use, I am looking for something along the lines of notepad that is in windows, currently I have been using vi but I was wanting something graphical, the only things I will be making are txt files and html files so I don't need any fancy extra's, all the editors that came with my redhat 7.2 that i have used seem to be slow to load and use. Thanks for any help.

i'd recommend nedit. bit of a git to install, but it's pretty nice if you like that kind of thing.

Thanks for the fast reply, I am not in front of my linux machines to try them right now so I will give them a try when I get home, I am just kind of blowing off the afternoon browsing the boards here. Of course that can always be said to be time well spent

Talking Console editing?

If you want a good editor for console editing, then I reccomend nano! It's

A.) GNU Software
B.) completely void of features
C.) easy as hell to use!
D.) the easiest software to compile..ever

If you wanna edit in the console, then nano, nano, nano

Thanks all for your posts, I am now using Nedit, I am going to have to give that nano edit a try though, I was getting tired of waiting for about a minute for a editor to come up just so I could change 3 letters on a html document so now it takes about 5 seconds to bring up Nedit, so thanks for the replies.

wouldn't bother with nano, still can't see any differences between Pico, which it is based on... and pico is half of the best email client anywa, pine, so yuo'll have it already.

In kde hava a look at kwrite and kate, both do syntax highlighting, and I use quanta for my html, php, javascript and css editing.

I hope this does not post twice - my last attempt crashed Opera. Joe is a super fast and easy text editor. ^KH gives you a split window with all help info immediately. But text only - you have to manually insert html tags.
