familiar+minicom+ipaq problem
Hi!
A friend gave me an IPAQ and I am wondering if it is possible to install linux on it instead of the Windows CE. I found "familiar" in google. I was able to successfully install the bootloader but can't install the root filesystem which is "opie". I couldn't establish a serial connection with the IPAQ device using the USB. All I end up is seeing the bootloader each time I reset the IPAQ. Here's the worst part, the battery got drained and I could no longer charge it in USB. Is it because I changed the bootloader? When I tried to typein lsusb, I can no longer find the device Compaq IPAQ. Please help me. I just don't understand why its hard to establish a serial connection from my PC to the IPAQ. Thanks. |
Some iPAQ models are not supported by Familiar or Opie (which by the way, are different linuxes). If you could get me the model number of the device, I may be able to help you. As for your serial connection, use a USB to serial converter ($20 at local computer store).

Hi pplude92,
The model is H3900. Hope you can help me out. Thanks. |
I have a rx1955, so I cant help you from experience, but here is Handheld.org's help
http://www.handhelds.org/projects/h3900.html As my handheld is not supported, I did everything from scratch, but this may be a good starting point for you. Read around. And, you'll definitely need that USB -> Serial converter, and an existing Linux box to SSH into. |
Hey, thanks a lot. Probably, if I have time, I'll try this one. Still don't have the usb to serial.
