Failure to Dualboot with Mepis and Windows ; Error message of 'rootnoverify (hd0,1)'

I recently posted a thread posing a problem where GRUB was having trouble booting MEPIS because Windows doesn't like being the slave drive. bernied responded and gave me a solution to try and i went home to try it except this time I got a different error message at the top of the screen saying:

rootnoverify (hd0,1)
chainloader +1
_

with no prompt allowing me to type commands; once I reach this point the only option I have is to restart it.

Wouldn't hd0 be the master drive?

Booting Windows from the master drive I use the following (file menu.lst):
title Windows XP
chainloader (hd0,0)+1

To boot Windows from the slave, try the following:

title Windows
rootnoverify (hd1,0)
chainloader +1
makeactive
