eye candy and other stuff

A couple of days ago, a thread about "themes" that I was trying to help with got a reply from "_KDF" who illustrated his post with the following link

http://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/screenshot.jpg

Which, if you have a look, is pretty damn impressive (well, I think so), anyway I noticed the two small news feed "thingy's" in the corners (the register and slashdot).

I e-mailed _KDF to ask about this and he was kind enough to reply and told me this

http://www.kdelook.org go to the karamba themes, you must first install superkaramba but there is an rpm available so you dont have to compile. The theme is called Light-n-Crisp, you need perl installed to get the newsfeeds, the standard newsfeeds are from some foriegn site so just edit the script and change it to slashdot and the register (easy to do).
So I have downloaded "superkaramba" and found a "theme" called "OSNEWS" which seems to be similar to what _KDF has showing on his "screenie".

But, the osnews theme has quite a few news sources, and I only want the register. Also I have looked into "editing the script" but can't manage to make the register the default news feed. I have also checked what is available "Perlwise" to install, so I can get the news feed, but mandrake throws up a mountain of Perl applications/facilities.

<edit>I have checked out the limited documentation and the "user forum" at sourceforge, but on reading some of the posts, find that it's way over my head! </edit>
Can anyone point me in the right direction please ?

regards

John

p.s. I know it's a bit cheeky of me to ask everyone if they know anything about this, but I would feel rather guilty bothering one person all the time

Maybe easier for people if you post the theme/doc/forum URI's and the part where you're sposed to edit the script?
