External Hard Drive "locked" in Mandriva 2006

I have just installed Mandriva 2006. I have an HP Pavillion Desktop computer. Before installation I placed all my music files on an external hard drive. Now I have installed Mandriva and the Hard Drive shows up as /dev/sda1 but when I click it I get an error message saying it's "locked" on the KDE desktop and that I do not have "permissions" on the Gnome desktop. I have an Ubuntu live CD that can view the files,...I have no way to save them to my hard drive with Ubuntu though. Can anyone help?

Perhaps you need to login as root?
