Unhappy extension "GLX" missing Quake3Arena

I recently purchased Quake 3 Arena for Linux and upon installation the game wouldn't run. It seems to be an openGL issue. First it couldn't find the file libGL.so but I got that problem resolved. Now I get the- extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0" -error. I tried going into XF86Config and uncommenting the Load "glx" line but all that gets me is a crashed X server with watch cursor and a bunch of pixelated junk on the screen when i try to restart the server. My problem is very similar to the post by rocco man titled opengl problems ?? however i have an ATI Radeon 7000 64MB DDR PCI and using those drivers in RH 8.0. I get the same problem for other openGL games like tuxracer so I really dont think it is a quake problem.

Also, I think i downloaded pointrelease 1.32 for quake but it seems to have just downloaded a script file. Can anyone tell me how i go about installing an update this way?

Any help is appreciated but I have only been using linux for about a month so I would appreciate help that anyone can understand. : )

Thnx

I'm thinking you need to install ATI drivers. The default drivers RH 8.0 provides won't cut it, atleast for nvidia cards they won't. As for script files just type ./filename, if that gives an error try chmod+x filename and try it again.
