exporting e-mail from thunderbird to Kmail

So I'm trying to export my mail from Thunderbird to Kmail. Thunderbird is supposed to use mbox format(though it's called something else). Kmail is supposed to be able to import from a mbox format, but it won't work. Thoughts? An automated exportation/importation to/from eml format would work to

You need to select the hidden inbox file or the one that is name inbox with more letters in it. (I am niot at home. The inbox folder is a decoy. (Don't feel bad, I made the same mistake.)

could you be more specific? I'm not sure I understand.

is just a tad vague.

Perhaps an outline of the steps you thought you were supposed to follow, together with a description of where it broke down & how you knew it wasn't working.

I was in Kmail, and used the import function. I chose the mbox format, and navigated to the folder containing the files for Thunderbird(E:/wx91x161.default/Mail/mail.spiekerfamily.com-1/ in windows). I then chose the Inbox file, which is ilke 35MB(which makes sense). Kmail doesn't recognize it a a valid mbox format, and edititing it w/ vim doesn't show anything. Thoughts?

(I) Don't use T'bird, (I've been) Winders free since May (where are my 30 & 90 day chips?), but is there any point in exporting from T'bird first? (I may be completely off base here.)

What do you mean? Yes, I can't sync w/ my zaurus from Thunderbird. Thoughts?

be sure to use "thunderbird local mail" import function instead of mbox, and be sure to select the proper folder.

Thunderbird import filter
Select your base Thunderbird mailfolder (usually ~/.thunderbird/*.default/Mail/Local Folders/).
Note: Never choose a Folder, which does not contain mbox-files (for example a maildir). If you do it anyway, you will get many new folders.
As it is currently impossible to recreate the folder structure, it will be "contained" in the generated folder's names.

I don't think my version of Kmail has a 'thunderbird local mail' import function. I'm using 3.3.2(I think). Hence the reason for my question. Is it just the Inbox file(mines approx. 35 MB)?

Randall Slack 10-06-2005 08:10 PM

i'm using 3.4.2 and never tried it with 3.3, so i have three options for you:
1) upgrade to 3.4.2
2) try this perl script i just found on google http://kmail.kde.org/unsupported/mozilla2kmail.pl
3) wait till somebody here can give you a better answer

Will upgrading Kmail throw everything else off?

microsoft/linux 01-06-2006 07:36 PM

ok, is there way to way to do the opposite? I've completely removed my e-mail from windows, and just want to use thunderbird in linux. Can I export from Kmail to thunderbird?
