Exchange Server for Linux ??

Hi All,

After lots and lots of bantering, i have convinced my boss to go with Linux for our new webserver !!

I am VERY new to linux, but have heard wonderous things about its stability and scalability, and look forward to getting my hands dirty

Now, i am on the detective path, and have to find all the cool software substitutes that we used to use for our webserver

The major hurdle is a substitute for Exchange server ...

If anyone has any recommendations, it would be a godsent!

Cheers for your help and time

Paul

Exchange Server

Hey just read your post
there is a ton of Linux based alternatives for exchange
try these for starters

Sendmail http://www.sendmail.org/
kinda buggy as of late and very complex but unarguably the most prevalant mail server on the entire internet

Postfix http://www.postfix.org/
a follow up of sendmail and also complex but easier than sendmail

Qmail http://www.qmail.org
a slightly scaled down and simpler mail server

that should get u started

HTH

M

ps have u tried mailenable http://www.mailenable.com/
for windows yet? its free easy and works very well

ROTFL

You wont understand why now but a screen shot of sendmail is an exremely hilarious idea

Sendmail is an extremely robust mailserver that is very configurable, most of the internets mail is delivered by sendmail. The oreilly sendmail book is good. If your going to use sendmail, check it for relaying.

Postfix is good and it is simple. The last place I worked ended up moving from postfix to sendmail because of compatibility and configurability.

Anyway if its the group ware functions of exchange your thinking about suse at least makes and exchange substitute:

Also there are some php groupware suites take a look at freshmeat.net

what about squirrelmail ...?? i have found that site and it looks pretty cool

I am really after a web based email app that has the functionality of outlook....

the exchange server requirements were a bit OVER THE TOP

what are other alternatives to send mail ??

In the win world, i would use Outlook and something like exchange server to 'web enable' my email, contacts, calender, tasks etc...

In RedHat world what can i use for Outlook & how can i web enable it for my employees/co-workers ??

CHEERS!!
