"Excel Solver" like capability in Linux

Is there an open source program that offers the optimization capabilities that Excel's solver does? My Gnumeric spreadsheet has a built in solver but it doesn't work. It won't let me enter constraints and the GUI won't let me choose to maximize or minimize my formula.

How about Excel's data tables? Is something like that available?

I am using Mandrake 9.2 and Gnumeric 1.2.0.

Many thanks.

Have you tried looking at OpenOffice.org? Specifically the 'Calc' part of the suite. I am not sure, but you might get what you are looking for , since it is a pretty full featured Spreadsheet program,

Hope that helps,

Thanks chem1 but that is the first place that I looked. OOo calc is a great spreadsheet but it lacks some of the advanced features in Excel. Like I mentioned in my post, Gnumeric is the only open source spreadsheet that I know of that advertises a Solver like capability but in my current version it doesn't work. I'll try upgrading to the latest version this weekend.

Thanks again for responding to my post.
