Question evolution - default browser: mozilla firebird (HOW?)

Hello everyone! I'm trying to find a way to cause Mozilla Firebird to be the default browser for evolution. I'm not a fan of Konqueror for an online browser... I love Firebird!!! Will someone please help me?? (I'm still considered a newbie... I just found out about the command ls... lol) Thanks in advance!

Hi.

Make a link called 'mozilla' inside /usr/bin which points to the 'MozillaFirebird' script which should be in the MozillaFirebird folder.

That's it.

create a file called .htmlviewrc in your home directory. It should contain this if you followed the symlink instructions above:

X11BROWSER=/usr/bin/MozillaFirebird

I think that should be X11BROWSER=/usr/bin/mozilla if my symlink is done (the link's called mozilla, it points to MozillaFirebird).

This isn't strictly necessary for just getting Evolution to work with mozilla, though as Evolution by default tries to open links with 'mozilla'.

Out of interest, lupin_the_third what other apps use the .htmlviewrc file to find their browsers apart from Evolution?

any command that calls on htmlview rather than a specific browser... it's essentially the "default" browser app...

If you are a anti-konqueror.

1) su - (then enter root pass)
2) cd /usr/bin
3) mv konqueror konqueror2
4) vi konqueror(u may use other text editor instead of vi)
5) Paste this script
---------------
#!/usr/bin/perl

$url = $ARGV[0];
@protocol = split/:/,$url;
if($protocol[0] eq "http" || $protocol[0] eq "ftp" || $protocol[0] eq "https") {
`firebird $url &> /dev/null`;
} else {
`konqueror2 $url &> /dev/null`;
}
---------------
6) chmod 755 konqueror

btw the "firebird" u see is

-------------------------------------
#!/bin/sh

firebird=/path/to/MozillaFirebird/MozillaFirebird
$firebird -remote 'openURL('$1', new-tab)' || $firebird $1 &
-------------------------------------

It will open a new tab when there are firebird running,if its not running it will open 1.
i place it in /usr/bin and chmod it to 755 too :-)
Now u can use firebird when any stupid program call up konqueror
So far I only know firebird support ftp http and https only.
I'm just a newbie, if I made any mistake, pls point me out :-)

all these seem very workaround. I'd check out some other post i've seen that seem more "as intended" to me.
