Is there a way for me to use the ethernet port for a display output. I have a raspberry pi and I want to connect it to a WPA-Enterprise network with PEAP authentication. I have no way of connecting it to a display device because I don't have the cables to do so. So I was thinking if I can use the ethernet cable port as a display output. I know it has been somewhat done before I just don't know what the method is called and how they did it. It seems possible, It's only streaming a picture to the device that you setup a client on. I also want a way of connecting the mouse and keyboard to the device.

Buying the relevant HDMI/DVI cable would be considerably cheaper than trying to use Ethernet to drive a display.

If you're really stuck then consider the Composite output of the Pi.

The way one uses network for display is not any direct method. They use some form of remote admin/desktop usually.

Then in keeping with the HDMI output, Is there a device that I can plug into my laptop that would receive an HDMI signal via USB and project it on my screen (Like remote desktop of course but it's just the display, mouse and keyboard aren't going to be captured but I can always plug in a spare set I have lying around).

If your laptop is Linux based then you could use X on the laptop and the Pi fairly easily. If it's a windows laptop you'll need some form of X server software (I can't remember the last stuff I tried).

I've also had success with https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...d=x.org.server on an android tablet.

If what you're looking for is to just use a screen to watch what your Pi is doing: Adafruit TFT touchscreen is quite cool.

I SSH into my pi through my router and then installed tightvnc so that I can use a VNC client to open an X desktop on it. I dare say you could do the same by connecting directly to it with an ethernet cable as long as you configure IP correctly.
