Unhappy ethereal install problem

heres the problem... once again i'm having problems installing software. i have downloaded evert possible rpm for ethereal 0.10 here is what i have....

ethereal-0.10.0a-1.RH9.src.rpm

ethereal-gtk+-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm
ethereal-base-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm
ethereal-usermode-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm
ethereal-gnome-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm

**every time i try to install one of these rpn's, i get notified that it needs other dependencies (e.g any of the above except the src rpm)
so i feel stuck.
the way i try to install these is...
step 1--> i download the file into a folder i created
step 2--> i right click the file and choose open with "Application"
step 3--> i then choose "installer " i get prompted for roots pswrd
it then does its thing.
i then get the error messages. (see above **)
************************************************************************************
if i try to configure the src i get this error

Code:
[root@localhost@localdomain folder]# ./configure
configure: error: can not find sources in . or ..
[root@localhost@localdomain folder]#
*****System Specs*****

Fedora Core 2
1.8ghz P4
1024 mb ram
duel <---(not sure of spelling) booted w/ win xp <---Sucks

Please help
step by step instructions would be nice

I'm not a big fan of rpm, but I think
Code:
rpm -i ethereal-0.10.0a-1.RH9.src.rpm ethereal-gtk+-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm ethereal-base-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm ethereal-usermode-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm ethereal-gnome-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm
should work ...

Cheers,
Tink

i did a
Code:
rpm -qa | sort -o ~/rpmlist.txt
and forund that i have these 4 things installed i think

ethereal-0.10.3-2.2
ethtool-1.8-3.1
libcap-1.10-18.1
libcap-devel-1.10-18.1

so with this info i should be able to run ethereal without installing anything else right?
if so, how ?

i tried this from the previous post....and got
Code:
[jim@localhost@localdomain Ethereal]$ ls
ethereal-0.10.0a-1.RH9.src.rpm ethereal-gtk+-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm
ethereal-base-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm ethereal-usermode-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm
ethereal-gnome-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm folder
[jim@localhost@localdomain Ethereal]$ rpm -i ethereal-0.10.0a-1.RH9.src.rpm ethereal-gtk+-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm ethereal-base-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm ethereal-usermode-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm ethereal-gnome-0.10.0a-1.RH9.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
        libpcap.so.0.6.2 is needed by ethereal-gtk+-0.10.0a-1.RH9
        libpcap.so.0.6.2 is needed by ethereal-base-0.10.0a-1.RH9
        ucd-snmp is needed by ethereal-base-0.10.0a-1.RH9
[jim@localhost@localdomain Ethereal]$
ye si have the src rpm in a seperate folder that is a whole different problem.
but if i have the dependencies as stated above, why do i get these errors.

thanks
jim

Because you're using rpm ...

And because

libcap-1.10-18.1 != libpcap.so.0.6.2

I suggest you compile the whole lot from source ;)
And no, I don't mean a source-rpm.

Cheers,
Tink
