Question Eterm Troubles

Hey guys,

I have been having a hell of a time getting Eterm to compile on my box.
I go to ./configure and when it gets to the libast library it gives me this error:

checking for libast_malloc in -last... no
ERROR: You need LibAST 0.5 or higher to build Eterm. If you already have it,
you may have it installed in a strange place, or you may need to run
/sbin/ldconfig. If you don't have it, I can download it for you.
Shall I retrieve and build LibAST now (y/n)?

and of course, I have installed the version of LibAST required. If only it were to be as easy as getting the library.

So I have the library it needs, but it keeps looking for libast_malloc and not finding it. From what I have read, libast_malloc is a function within LibAST.

Anyone else run into this problem and find a solution? Any way to work around it?

Thanks.

Is it in your current path? Where did it install to? Have you updated your ld.conf file and run ldconfig to update your lib's on your system?

yes, I ran ldconfig and checked ld.conf to make sure the path was correct.

it installed to /usr/local/lib

that path was in my ld.conf

I've seen a number of people post about this problem and I've run into it myself. The only common thread I've been able to discern is Slack 9. There is something about the config script for Eterm that just doesn't work right for Slack 9.

My solution has been to use aterm.

If you do find a way to get Eterm to compile, please post the answer.

I had seen that post and tried the suggestion without any luck. Still the same problem. However, recently this was posted here at LQO, and there is a link near the bottom of the thread with a solution works like a charm.
