Unhappy error using RPM -header read field?

Im running redhat enterprise linux for power version 3 update 4 on an iseries i5 partition. Ive telneted signed on as root and have downloaded some rpm's from ibms download site. When I try to install them im getting the following error that the headerRead failed: region trailer: BAD, tag 16 and then that it "cannot be installed". Any clues?

1. check the md5sum of the packages.
2. make sure of the format of the rpms you downloaded. Make sure they aren't compressed or in a group tar.gz
